HARRISBURG – Since the Nov. 3 General Election, Rep. Craig Staats (R-Bucks) has received thousands of inquiries from constituents concerning the legitimacy of the election amid reports of voting irregularities and multiple lawsuits filed.

“I have been overwhelmed by the response to the election and can assure my constituents we are working to get answers to their concerns,” said Staats. “Our focus is not on changing the outcome of the election, but to get the answers that will help us ensure the election process is free, fair and secure going forward.”

Multiple lawsuits have been filed challenging Pennsylvania’s handling of the election, and House Speaker Bryan Cutler has sent a letter to Gov. Tom Wolf requesting a full audit of the election before the certification of any results. Pennsylvania’s certification deadline is Monday, Nov. 23.

In his letter, Cutler cited action by the state Supreme Court and Department of State that he said caused confusion among county election officials and may have violated the U.S. Constitution. Cutler said those actions “cast an unnecessary cloud on the election process” and caused people to question the results. “We must take every possible step to ensure that all Pennsylvanians and all Americans know that our Commonwealth has conducted the General Election with integrity,” Cutler wrote.

“The House State Government Committee, on which I serve, will soon hold a series of public hearings on the process undertaken in the November election,” said Staats. “We seek to determine if interference by the Pennsylvania Department of State and the Pennsylvania Supreme Court in the weeks leading up to the election resulted in a process failure. Our investigation will examine the process used in this election and will focus heavily on the handling of mail-in ballots. Our goal is to determine what transpired and what legislative remedies will help to ensure public confidence in our elections.”
