HARRISBURG - House Majority Whip, Rep. Donna Oberlander (R-Armstrong/Clarion/Forest), has named Rep. Craig Staats (R-Bucks) to serve as deputy whip in the 2021-22 Legislative Session, which begins in January.

Recently elected to his fourth term as representative of the 145th Legislative District, Staats has worked with Oberlander before and has proven himself in leadership roles. Oberlander said she wanted him on her team.

“Last session, Rep. Staats assisted me with the Majority Policy Committee as a deputy policy chairman, and I am happy that he will continue his service to the caucus as a deputy whip in the new term,” Oberlander said. “Craig has earned the respect of his colleagues, and I am confident he will serve the caucus well in this new role.”

Deputy whips have a variety of responsibilities on the House floor, including assisting with member vote counts and, when faced with challenging issues, helping to promote the Republican caucus position. They also keep Oberlander informed about issues that might affect the legislative agenda and or the caucus.

“I am honored to have been chosen for this important assignment and thankful to have the confidence of the majority whip,” said Staats. “It has been a pleasure to serve under Rep. Oberlander’s leadership. We work well together, and I look forward to another productive legislative session.”

The 145th district includes the townships of East Rockhill, Milford, Richland, Springfield and West Rockhill, and the boroughs of Perkasie, Quakertown, Richlandtown, Sellersville and Trumbauersville.
